On Friday night, Beth Am welcomed our new Cantor, Cheryl Wunch to the bima.  It was an important moment in the history of our congregation. To lead a community in prayer is a great blessing and it is made more meaningful when the community joins in support and care together.   I am happy to have been with so many pray-ers last night.  I often marvel at how many people come to our Friday night worship and last night was no exception.  Sometimes I think it is much easier to just stay home on Friday night, to sit on the couch and maybe there, fall asleep! After all, it is the end of the week and we are so tired!  However, once we do arrive at shul and sit in the pews/in our chairs we experience another kind of peace and quiet.  At the beginning of each worship service, we settle in and begin to quiet our mind.  We hopefully allow ourselves to put all the to-do lists away to just receive a few moments of stillness in the midst of our very busy lives.  In my experience, this receiving allows me to be more present to my own life and when that happens, I can be present to the miracles happening all around me day by day, minute by minute.
